Patrick Williams is a MFA Drawing and Painting senior at Cal State Long Beach. In January 2017, he won the Windes Corporate Gallery Award for this pieces called “Orange City” and “Orange Sea.”
For this exhibit, Patrick painted Greek gods and goddesses in a gray tone but also painted over the gods with graffiti-like markings.
Patrick explains, “My paintings are an attempt to wrestle with the limitations and the assets of painting in the context of a post digital paradigm; both as art object and as their eventual life as digital file.” He was interesting in making sure the audience can see how art has changed due to our technology.
This was my favorite exhibit so far. I was amazed at how crisp the colors were and I enjoyed his message. I do think art has changed a lot with technology. Not the argue whether it’s bad or good but modern art can be meaningful and challenging like the art before them.
